Bowfell and Esk Pike

Date: 31/07/2021
Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Location: Bowfell and Esk Pike

There is no better sight than travelling into Langdale. The valley is simply beautiful. The pointy rocky summits of the pikes dominate the skyline for miles. The tops are so prominent and recognisable that you can see them from miles away. Situated at the end of the Langdale valley is Bowfell. Its great height and bulk are only obvious on closer inspection, but the mountain is the true ‘king’ of the valley.

Our Lake District Guided Walk of Bowfell & Esk Pike begins by climbing up the legendary Band, the mountain’s long eastern arm. The gentle start allows you take in the views and savour this magnificent day. The legendary Three Tarns is a great spot to stop and capture the views before the final rocky push to the summit. From here we take the gentle descent to Ore Gap and rise to Esk Pike. The final leg of this glorious guided walk sees us past Angle Tarn and Rossett Gill before returning to the magnificent Langdale Valley floor.

“A favourite of all fell walkers, Bowfell is a mountain that commands attention whenever it appears in view. And more than attention, respect and admiration, too; for it has that rare characteristic of displaying a graceful outline and a sturdy shapeliness on all sides”
“Bowfell’s top is a shattered pyramid, a great heap of stones and boulders and naked rock, a giant cairn in itself.”
Alfred Wainwright
