Skiddaw

Date: 07/09/2020
Time: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Location: Skiddaw

Skiddaw is the fourth highest mountain in the Lake District and can sometimes be unfairly labelled as dull. Nothing can be further from the truth. Adventure Peaks Lake District Guided Walk of Skiddaw is an excellent day out with a summit that is wild and rocky and runs for a mile and a half with some of the best views in all of the north western lakes.

We begin our day taking the bending path from Latrigg, which rises steeply, crossing Jenkins hill. We then leave the path to traverse Little Man, before rejoining the trail to summit Skiddaw. The views from here are spectacular. Our journey then takes us next to Lonscale Fell and we descend via Longscale’s eastern summit and crags. A nice easy track then takes us back to the car park.

Previous Experience

You should have a good level of fitness and be comfortable walking for 5-6 hours per day with around 722m (2,370ft) of ascent.

“The summit is buttressed magnificently by a circle of lesser heights, all of them members of the proud Skiddaw family, the whole forming a splendid complete example of the structure of mountains, especially well seen from all directions because of it’s isolation.”
“It’s lines are smooth, it’s curves graceful; but because the slopes are steep everywhere, the quick build-up of the massif from valley levels to central summit is appreciated at a glance, for such massive strength and such beauty of outline rarely go together……. Here, on Skiddaw, they do.”
Alfred Wainwright
