Helvellyn & Striding Edge Public Walk
Step back in time to rocky terrain & narrow glaciated edges on one of England’s four 3000ft summits.


Duration: Around 5-6 hours Distance: 14.3km / 8.9 miles Total Ascent: 1052m / 3451ft Wainwrights: Helvellyn (950m), Nethermost Pike (891m) & Catstye Cam (890m) Meeting Point: Ullswater Information Centre, Glenridding This mythical mountain, standing at 950m, is one of the great mountains of the Lake District. Helvellyn offers walkers the chance to step back in time to rocky terrain and narrow glaciated edges. It is one of England’s four 3000 ft summits and is home of the best ridge walk in Britain – Striding Edge. We begin our walk in Glenridding and make our way up to Birkhouse Moor. From here we head to Striding Edge and walk and scramble along Helvellyn’s awesome ridge to the Summit. We cross the plateau to Nethermost Pike and then descend down Swirral Edge. From here we summit Catstye Cam before returning to Glenridding. A head for heights in a must on this big day out. “There is some quality about Helvellyn which endears it in the memory of most people who have stood on its breezy top.” – Alfred Wainwright WHAT TO BRING - Walking boots (waterproof recommended) - Clothing suitable for walking (no jeans) - Rucksack (waterproof liner recommended) - Waterproof jacket and trousers - Warm layer, hat and gloves - Sun hat, sun glasses and sun cream - Water bottle (minimum 1 litre) - Packed lunch - Head torch (charged) - Any personal medication including Epipens This list is mandatory year round. If you are missing any items please get in touch. Arriving to a walk without these items may result in you being turned away. THIS ACTIVITY REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF 4 PARTICIPANTS TO RUN. Booking & Cancellation Policy
If you wish to cancel, you must update your booking information via the website or inform us in writing/via email. Your cancellation date is the date on which we receive written instruction or website confirmation. The following cancellation fees will apply: 30¬15 days before start date: retention of 50% of total price. 14 or fewer days before start date: retention of 100% of total price.
